Today was our 1st official day of “gameschooling.” Normally we would start the day after labor day, but I work tomorrow and wanted the first day to be at home. Here’s how it went.
First morning snuggles with the homeschool mascot
Then Brady got up and tore into his schultute. I love this tradition 🙂
Then we watched a little “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” and had a little breakfast
And did a little swinging on the Gorilla Gym
Then there was some playdoh to work on fine motor skills and hand strength
Then a quick costume change and it was outside for our traditional picture
We sharpened his dry erase colored pencils and he did a little handwriting
And some time experimenting with his new markers and stamps for art
He played Grammaropolis on my phone (nouns today)
And played with Toca Lab too (he’s gotten all the elements now he’s working on learning their names)
We built some puzzles for Geography
And he watched BrainPop videos on Ben Franklin, George Washington, and Bill Clinton for social studies
A little reading in his “Mankind: The Story of All of Us” graphic novel
And some building time with Wedgits
And then it was time for lunch
We read a chapter of “The Doctor Trap”
And he played “Stack the Countries” and then “Scribblenauts” on the kindle
Then we built with legos while listening to School House Rock playlists covering money and multiplication for math time
Once Daddy got home from work it was time for “Tell Me a Story” cards for creative writing
Then Brady learned a few new phrases on the Spanish App, watched a BrainPop video on The Beatles for music and dusted his room (Home Ec 😉
We broke into the new paints and brushes
Tonight was also his very first karate lesson.
And that’s what a (very full) school day looks like for us right now. We won’t cover all of those subjects every day, but I think it’s going to be a very good year.
When is the first day in your homeschool? If it has already happened how did it go and, if it hasn’t, what are you most excited about this year?
